Krispy Kreme

This kid is great. In "Best Friends," his newest song, someone has kidnapped his companion and number one homie, Money Maker Mike. It's up to Krispy to get him back. If you don't know him, check out "The Baddest" for a snot-nosed introduction. Sky's the limits for this guy.

Song of the Day

I already forgot everything you said.

Nice, understated atmospheric song from The Dig, a heretofore previously unknown (to me) NYC band. Gotta wonder sometimes how many indie bands there are out there. You can currently stream the entirety of their new album, Midnight Flowers, over at spinner.

Tiffany Lou

I never really got into James Blake. I mean he's kind of neat, but he always seemed more focused on the sound than the songs. This guy, daughn gibson, is definitely a contemporary of his, but looks to have it the other way around: songs first. Well more like songs and sounds first.

Burnt out on Pavement, but want more Pavementy Songs?

Try Urusei Yatsura, a lo-fi, Scottish band that played in the 1990's and were obviously majorly inspired by Pavement. They had 3-4 albums and then broke up and the lead singer went on to form Project A-ko. None of their stuff reaches the transcendence of Pavement, but as far as Pavement-sounding bands, you can't get much closer.

Custard

Shout-out to Jake Lowell for finding these guys. Here's how Allmusic described them: Custard is an Australian group combining the intelligent pop of Pavement and the Pixies with the humor of Violent Femmes or Ween. Hard to find too much of their stuff, considering they are an Australian band from the nineties and share their name with a desert. However, I was able to track down a copy of their greatest hits on Amazon, and this little live gem on Youtube:
